The lack of physical content is kind of a bummer. Halsey's journal was my favorite bonus for Reach.

On the other hand, it let's them give us more for less. Producing digital content is fairly cheap. You make it and can give away as many copies as you want for basically no additional cost. But every single statue has it's own cost, plus the cost of that huge box for packaging. Plus some of this literally costs them nothing. Specialization unlocks are nothing more than flipping a switch. So we end up with what looks like a lot, for a pretty cheap price considering what we get.

And yeah, the specialization unlocks are unfair, but negligibly so. I doubt earning them would take that long and they don't seem like they are that amazing anyways. Everything will even out over time.

I have the exact opposite feeling. I do not care one bit for physical content. I would much rather have additional maps to play on rather than something that will just gather dust.

Well collector's editions usually come for stuff for collectors, and you obviously aren't a collector. Collectors tend to like physical stuff and collectibles, like Halsey's journal or the Noble Team statue.

Gamers on the other hand want more stuff to play. This limited edition is probably better described as a "Halo fan edition" than as a collector's edition.

Unfortunately, 343i is kinda screwing over collectors by not having an edition for collectors. Which I think is a pretty bad idea, as collectors are generally willing to shell out a lot of cash for the collectibles they want. Most people probably wouldn't consider the Noble Team Statue worth the price. But most of the people who actually bought it are probably pretty happy with it and even would have paid a decent bit more for it.
