| I got bored so I thought I would play around with Photoshop, and made some sigs. What do you guys think, and be honest, criticise at will, it can only help... hopefully. *Note the spartan included is not a main part, just thought it would look cool as a ghostly figure

| I think it's too squished. Those waves of smoke don't really work that well in a sig.
If you use a more lateral image then it could be really good. |

| What do you mean by Later Image, I'm not familiar with the term :3
Yeah I made the signature then realised it was in the format of Image 3, and i realised I just wasted 3 hours of work because they wouldn't look right >.<

| It looks as though you created the 3rd image first and then resized it to a signature size. This degrades the quality, resolution and the overall look of it. Instead, start with a sig sized canvas (I typically use 400x125) and then work from there rather than resizing it.
Smoke is very difficult to work with in photoshop or gimp so I would not suggest starting there. Do some C4D stuff or smudging to get you started. If you are dead set on smoke, if it is big like this, you should have it behind the spartan. It looks as though he is on overlay and is very difficult to see.
Good luck and if you need help with photoshop, just let me know and I can direct you to some good tutorials.

| Here is v2 of the signatures, in image 1 is it just basic smudging, lighting effects and text. In image 2 I bevoled and embossed the blood splat and the text.

*If those knife outlines are on the image its a glitch, I noticed them, deleted the img from photobucket, removed them, resaved the jpeg, re uploaded the images and repasted the IMG code, so I don't know why they are still there.

| I'll hold my tongue and keep my comments to myself :P After all, we have to all start somewhere! Besides, that's better than when I first started haha.
I'd probably just end up reiterating everything that Deuce said, so I'll just go ahead and point you to a tutorial instead.

Smudge Tutorial
Intermediate
Splatter Tutorial
Grunge Tutorial
Don't try anything too advanced right away. For now, you can just focus on learning about the tools in GIMP and get down some personal techniques or methods. Flow, lighting, and color will all come together naturally after some practice. If you're extremely interested at getting into digital arts, more specifically signatures/tags, then this might give you a lot of insight; The Ultimate Guide. (It's a huge image -in length-, be warned!)

| 1. Your render is too small. Rather than trying to fit the entire render in the sig, fit the main details (face, arms, chest, gun). You're making a sig here so you're going to have to make it short like you did but retain the main render details by having it take up a fair portion of the image.
2. Your background looks like a radial gradient. You did right by picking two colors from the render to form the gradient but it should be behind your render to act as a glow or backdrop. What I mean by this is the center of the blue that is radiating outwards should be centered with your render and expand from behind it.
3. Smudging is a blending tool not meant for the main render. Make duplicates of your render once you have placed it and then smudge them individually behind your render to create a blending into the background.
4. The blood spatter is tough to do. Try using different spatter brushes and watching tutorials to get it right. It would look better if it was varied with several different spatter brushes.
5. The embossed text would look better without the blurred stuff around it.
6. Spacing. Look up some design theory. Some good ones for sigs are the rule of thirds and color theory. If you are not sure of those, you can google it and learn more.
